Courtesy of Disney+ Hotstar, we were able to join an exclusive press conference with the cast and crew of Agatha All Along. One of the most interesting topics discussed during the event was when Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza tease the dynamic and relationship between their characters.
The first is when they were questioned about working together for the first time:
Aubrey Plaza: Well, I don’t think I’m allowed to say anything, which is what I love about being on this show so much, it’s that you’re not allowed to say anything or you get into trouble. All I’ll say about my character is that you can expect the unexpected. You have no idea what’s going to happen with her and there’s twists and turns and all kinds of shenanigans happening. That’s all I’ll say about that.
I’ve wanted to work with Kathryn for… Kathryn and I were both on Parks And Rec a long, long time ago but we never really had any screen time, so I was really excited to actually go toe-to-toe with Kathryn and sink my teeth in but I don’t know.
Kathryn Hahn: Yeah, Aubrey is like one of those performers that I admire so much. She doesn’t want to stay on the surface. She’s like hilarious and also is like stoic. It’s weird, there wasn’t a lot of, like, I love her, we know each other socially but we never, we didn’t really talk much around it.
Aubrey Plaza: No, we send a lot of pics, songs and pictures of the moon, just little kind of nuggets.
Kathryn Hahn: Little nuggets?
Aubrey Plaza: Yeah, we were nuggeting.
Kathryn Hahn: We were nuggeting? Back and forth. And then we kind of saved it for, not even consciously then, in the scene. It was kind of like that.
Aubrey Plaza: Yeah, psychological preparation.
Kathryn Hahn: It was.
Later, when asked about the dynamic between their characters, they added:
Aubrey Plaza: Again, I signed up for this show because I thought we weren’t allowed to talk. But I think they can expect a very intense dynamic, one that has all the colours of the rainbow. And I think they should be scared and they should be excited. I don’t know, just raise the bar really high, I think.
